The best blog for busy Moms… Huzzah and look no further: Have ye Seen a Party like it’s 1599? I think not!
Ahoy there, fellow mommas! If you're looking for a fun-filled adventure fit for the whole family, then look no further than the Bristol Renaissance Faire. Take a quick read of this blog for busy moms of kid-friendly venues. I want to share with you my recommendation for the Bristol Renaissance Faire. Located in Bristol (Kenosha) Wisconsin, the Faire is a “Saturday and Sunday Only” attraction open from July 8-September 4. The Faire is a place where you can spend all day enjoying the entertainment more than once and you’ll have a unique experience each time you visit. Variety for your visits is guaranteed with their impressive plan of Themed Weekends for 2023.
It's a place of wonder and merriment, where time-traveling to the Elizabethan era is possible. From jousting knights to wandering minstrels, from vendors selling unique handicrafts to delicious food stands, there's something for everyone at this amazing fair. As a seasoned Bristolian, (and Bridgerton fangirl) I'm thrilled to share with you my tips and tricks for a fantastic Faire experience.
First things first, let's talk attire. Dressing up in Renaissance clothing is not mandatory, but it sure adds to the ambiance and fun. You can find reasonably priced costumes at local thrift stores, or DIY your own using patterns and fabrics from craft stores. Don't forget to accessorize with feathered hats, flower crowns, and lace-up boots. And for a truly immersive experience, get your kiddos in on the dress-up action too. The staff speak in an Elizabethan tongue, and do not break character…ever!
The Bristol Faire has a plethora of shows and performances to choose from, each one more exciting than the last. The all-time favorite is the jousting tournament, where knights in shining armor battle it out in a fierce competition. This is kid-friendly viewing, so be sure to sit close to the action. There are also comedy and musical acts, dancers, acrobats, and even a giant puppet parade. My ten year old son even paid $5 to a jester to have me publicly roasted! (I held his allowance that week!!!) Make sure to grab a daily schedule so you don't miss out on any must-see performances. Kid-friendly rides and games are also part of the wonderland of the Faire. Face-painters, balloon artists, and flower crowns are much-adored parts of the experience, if you ask my own two children!
The artisan marketplace is a treasure trove of unique and high-quality wares, from jewelry to leatherwork, from pottery to woodcarving. Haggling is a traditional practice at the faire, so don't be afraid to negotiate prices with the vendors (but be respectful and courteous about it!). And for a truly one-of-a-kind souvenir, get a custom-made wax seal by the Waxdipped Hats booth. This is a kid-approved souvenir from start-to-finish. The artistry and creative process is enamoring.
And boy, does the Bristol Faire deliver on the food front. Turkey legs, meat pies, roasted corn on the cob, and bread bowls filled with soup are some of the staple fare items. But don't forget to try the less conventional treats too, such as the fried mac and cheese balls, the dragon's breath popcorn, and the mead (honey wine) for the parents. And if you're feeling adventurous, attend a Medieval Feast where you can indulge in a five-course dinner while being entertained by minstrels and wenches - there are kid-friendly seating times that are more appropriate and less raucous for the kids!
The Bristol Renaissance Faire is a family-friendly event, but it can also be crowded and busy. Make sure to designate a meeting spot in case someone gets lost. Purchase your tickets online for your desired date to ensure your entrance. Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes, and be mindful of your surroundings. Feel free to bring your stroller or wagon so the kids can rest. And most importantly, have fun and create memories that you and your family will cherish for years to come.
Huzzah, you've made it to the end of my mom's guide to the Bristol Renaissance Faire. I hope I've convinced you to go forth and experience the magic of the faire for yourself. Remember to dress up, catch a show, shop for unique souvenirs, feast like royalty, and stay safe. And above all, embrace the fun and silly spirit of the Elizabethan era. As we like to say at the faire, "good morrow and joyous revelry to you!"
Fare thee well!
