When looking for the ideal family beach vacation, you may not want somewhere that is too wild with holiday action and crowds. Perhaps a place to unwind and spend quality time with your loved ones is more your choice. Sandbridge Beach, Virginia is worth checking out! My husband and I take our children every summer, and they look forward to it all year long.

It has no shortage of vacation home rentals with private beach access. The beaches are always clean, making it the perfect place to let your kids run around and play in the sand. My memories include “Hey Mommy! Make me into a mermaid!” from my daughter Katie as I bury her legs in the sand in the shape of a mermaid tail, all the time giggling excitedly. And my sons playing nearby, building an impressive seven- foot long sand castle.

Our favorite thing to do  is crabbing on the beach after dark. We go out with flashlights, nets and a bucket, and search for ghost crabs. We see how many they can catch. We count up the crabs before releasing and watching them scuttle down the beach.

Sandbridge is secluded but twenty minute's drive will take you to the Virginia Beach Boardwalk for great restaurants and entertainment. We usually go to a new dinner location for variety but we repeat two favorites every time - La La Land Sugar Candy Kingdom which pleases the taste buds of all ages, and shopping at the 17^th Street Surf Shop for a holiday 'must have'.

It is a great spot to swim and surf but can I suggest that paddling for the little ones is good. This is more for adults as there are sometimes wicked waves and powerful undercurrents.
