Checking Off The Kid-Friendly Bucket List in Rosemont, Illinois
Chicago and its surrounding suburbs are an excellent place to live, to raise a family, and to have some kid-friendly fun. Sometimes, my kids and I treat long weekends as “Staycations,” where we are able to act as tourists in our own city and take a deep breath and unwind without having to worry about rushing to another practice, game, or dance recital.
With this in mind, we sit together to create a “Kid-Friendly Bucket List” at the start of each new year - and they end up much like resolutions for us. This list has expanded as my kids have gotten older, more mature, and have become more aware of their preferences in activities.
During Fall Break our plan is to check two places off our bucket list with a trip to Rosemont, Illinois - located just five minutes from Chicago. These kid-friendly venues: iFLY - indoor skydiving and The Sugar Factory Restaurant and Retail Shop will prove to make some Staycation memories to last a lifetime.
iFly at Rosemont
While skydiving is not for the faint of heart, indoor skydiving provides the same type of experience without the risk. As a mom, I want my kids to enjoy the adrenaline and adventure of stepping outside of their comfort zones (or flying, in this case) but I definitely would never consider allowing them to actually jump out of an airplane! iFLY, however, captures the essence of a “flight” while tandemly providing a one-of-a-kind memory your child will never forget.
It’s best to plan ahead and book your experience at iFly in advance - from start to finish plan on staying about an hour and forty-five minutes. The kid-friendly instructors and staff make sure all safety protocols are followed prior to the actual “flight.” First-time flyers must participate in a training session - even the youngest of flyers (iFly is appropriate for ages 3-103!). After donning a “flight suit” with specially designed handles, the kid-friendly staff help guide even the youngest of flyers to a safe and rewarding experience. Flyers are also required to wear flight goggles during the flight experience. Since each flight simulates a “real” jump out of an airplane, the free fall experience only lasts about 45 seconds to a minute. You can choose to do one or more flights on your visit to iFly - and since you’re there… make the most of it.
In addition, iFLY also has party packages for kids (and adults alike) including all the accouterments, making a memorable birthday experience for the celebrant and their guests. iFLY offers a one-of-a-kind kid-friendly bucket list experience for all of your kids to enjoy!

Sugar Factory at Rosemont
Just a hop, a skip, and a jump from iFLY, families can find another adventure to cross off their Kid-Friendly Bucket List: The Sugar Factory - a 9,000 square foot restaurant and retail shop boasting both sweet and savory treats that will surely impress your kids! The menu is ample and diverse, mirroring the posh atmosphere which features whimsical colors, complete with chandeliers, upscale table settings, and fine china complimenting the sparkle in your Princess Gourmet Milkshake! The menu offers an abundance of options for even the pickiest of eaters, from the young to the old. Celebrity sightings are a possibility at The Sugar Factory, making it a very cosmopolitan atmosphere, however, the staff here know how to make it a kid-friendly venue - it has to be since SUGAR is the main ingredient! Signature treats include famous celebrity-endorsed Couture Pops, Candy-Infused Martinis (for the 21+ kids), Smoking Candy Goblets available with or without spirits and the one-and-only King Kong Sundae which serves you and 20 of your closest friends.
While the food, the drink, the dessert options, and the pop music echoing are an all-out adventure for all, the retail store is where it’s at! Kids are able to create their own to-go treat bags to ensure a continued sugar rush once they awaken from their naps! The treats are presented in an eye-catching color coded display and offer a multitude of options to entice the child in us all - complete with its own section dedicated to chocolate-based candies.
The Sugar Factory is truly an exhilarating experience of food, drink, and of course…SUGAR! This Kid-Friendly Venue is a slam dunk for kids and kids at heart - a kid-friendly bucket list winner!
