With the holidays steadily approaching, there is no shortage of kid-friendly activities and welcoming kid friendly venues to engage kids of all ages and get into that timeless holiday spirit while in the Chicagoland area. The Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Arlington Heights, as well as Illumination: Tree Lights at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, check off engaging “Holiday-To-Do Experiences" from every family’s Kid-Friendly-Venue Bucket List.
This is a premier Kid-Friendly Venue that hosts 309 seats, all with exceptional, unobstructed views. With the furthest seat only forty feet from center stage, kids are afforded a prime view of stage productions like Matilda Jr. (running each November) and the ever-popular December productions of “A Christmas Carol” and “Elf”. These stage plays feature children in key roles, so their presence is admired by even the youngest of attendees. With this in mind, the Metropolis offers field trip options for student groups, large group tickets, and discounted group-rate tickets for matinee performances. These Kid-Friendly stage plays and musicals entice children with vibrant songs and well-choreographed dance, elaborate costuming, and expansive set designs. A Holiday Treat!
During students’ Winter Break (as well as other vacation times during the year) the Metropolis offers partial and full-day camps for kids who are excited about acting and stage productions. These camps are affordable and well-organized, and about as enriching as they can be! The kid-friendly themes and thoughtful, kid-friendly staff work to bring out every campers’ creativity. Students work on creating costumes and set decorations while learning the ins and outs of acting and the theater. Each camp culminates with a performance by the students for parents and family to view. Winter Break Camps fill up quickly, check out the website and sign-up today!
The Metropolis is a welcoming environment for all, with ample handicapped seating opportunities and the Telecoil (T-Coil) hearing aid pairing capability for visitors with hearing impairments within the theater. Coupled with a kid-friendly atmosphere and staff, the theater is surely a hit for all, and a wonderful experience for the young (and the young at heart) at the holidays! Be sure to check out the Metropolis calendar for show tickets and times - and make this part of your holiday Kid-Friendly Venue Bucket List!
